M.C., a 46-year-old cleaner from Turkmenistan, has been brought to court on charges of burglary involving two homes. It has been reported that the suspect stole clothes, shoes, sandals, jewelry, and household items worth a total of 100,000 TL from the residence where he was employed. However, investigations revealed that M.C. committed theft not only from one house but also from the residence of the homeowner’s brother.
During the hearing at the Nicosia District Court, police officials stated that the suspect stole various items from a house located in the Yenikent area, where he worked in cleaning services between July 2025 and August 2026. After the incident was reported on August 18, 2026, M.C. was apprehended in Nicosia.
The police emphasized that they intended to conduct a search at the address where the suspect was living in Yenikent, but could not do so due to an incorrect address provided. Furthermore, investigations into the arrested individual revealed that he had stolen clothes and items worth 150,000 TL from the residence of the homeowner’s brother.
Highlighting the need to examine confessions and security camera footage, the police stated that M.C. could influence evidence and testimonies if released. Consequently, they requested that the suspect remain in custody for an additional 7 days. The court accepted the police’s request and extended the suspect’s detention period.
The police noted that the investigation is ongoing and that more evidence needs to be collected, indicating they will conduct further efforts to gather additional witness statements and security camera footage related to the matter.
