CYFRA 04/26 Search and Rescue Exercise
A search and rescue exercise between South Cyprus and France, conducted in the maritime area under the administration of the Greek Cypriot Administration, was organized under the code name ‘CYFRA 04/26’. The scope of this exercise was broadened with the participation of naval vessels from Greece, Germany, Italy, and the United States.
Emphasis on Excellent Cooperation
According to statements from Cypriot sources, this exercise was aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of search and rescue. It was noted that this cooperation between South Cyprus and France serves as an excellent example, with the presence of participants from other countries being reassuring.
The Fileleftheros newspaper emphasized that the exercise further advanced the collaboration between the two countries. The exercise involved a French warship equipped with helicopters, along with aerial and maritime assets belonging to the Greek Cypriot Administration. Additionally, a “MEDEVAC” team providing special ambulance services participated in the exercise.
According to a statement from the South Cyprus Search and Rescue Coordination Center, the exercise aimed to develop existing cooperation with the French Armed Forces and to train teams in managing search and rescue operations.
The exercise was highlighted as a continuous part of the cooperation between the two countries. It was expressed that such events hold the potential to enhance international cooperation.
The coalition of four countries played a significant role in the execution of the exercise. The joint naval drill took place in the waters south of Cyprus, and the results of the exercise, announced by the national guard, attracted attention as a model of multinational cooperation.
The exercise conducted under the name “Cyprus Readiness” was part of broader maritime operations carried out in the Levant region, bringing together vessels from different countries. Participating forces tested their collaborative skills through tactical maneuvers, advanced operations, and communication exercises.
