Recently, the strengthening of relations between South Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt has drawn attention. The President of the Greek Cypriot Administration, Nikos Christodoulides, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made significant statements after a trilateral summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
As a result of this summit, Egypt announced that it would send a contingent of elite troops to participate in the military parade scheduled for October 1, as part of the so-called independence day celebrations of the Republic of Cyprus. This indicates that Egypt is taking a significant step in its relations with South Cyprus.
According to a report by the Fileleftheros newspaper, this gesture from Egypt is seen as a sign of increased trust and cooperation between the two countries. In recent years, South Cyprus and Egypt have conducted many joint exercises, but the participation of a military unit in the parade carries a different significance.
Additionally, it is noted that Christodoulides and Sisi visited an aviation fair held before the trilateral summit, during which individuals at the Turkish booth reportedly left the stand. This incident offers a new perspective on how regional dynamics are evolving after the summit.
The independence day celebrations in South Cyprus are set to take place once again with broad participation, as they do every year. Egypt’s presence of troops at these celebrations is interpreted as a development parallel to the strengthening of international relations.
