Saliha Özkol, a 61-year-old victim of a stabbing incident in Aygün, İskele, was laid to rest today in a ceremony held with a large attendance. Her ex-husband, M.A., was subject to a remote arrest hearing due to the murder. In the hearing, shocking details of the incident were presented to the court.
The funeral service for Saliha Özkol was held after the afternoon prayer at Aygün Mosque, attracting many attendees. Özkol’s family was overcome with grief, while participants expressed their outrage over the murder. Notable figures attending the funeral included Minister of Interior Dursun Oğuz, İskele Mayor Hasan Sadıkoğlu, and Republican Turkish Party Leader Sıla Usar İncirli.
Following the ceremony, Saliha Özkol was buried at Aygün Cemetery. Attendees condemned the murder, expressing their deep sorrow.
During the funeral, a remote hearing concerning M.A. was held at the İskele District Court. It was reported that the suspect went to Saliha Özkol’s house around 6:00 AM and broke a window with a stone he found in the garden. Subsequently, as Özkol exited her house, M.A. caught her in the garden and stabbed her multiple times with a knife he possessed, causing serious injuries.
The police reported that the severely injured Saliha Özkol died at the scene. After the incident, M.A. returned to his home in Gazimağusa and inflicted severe injuries upon himself.
M.A. was placed under medical treatment at Gazimağusa State Hospital. The police indicated that the suspect had survived a life-threatening condition. Furthermore, it was mentioned that he voluntarily provided a statement at the hospital and confessed to his crime. However, due to low blood values, he could not be brought to court and a request for an extension was made.
The court ruled that the suspect would remain in custody for an additional 3 days due to the ongoing investigation.
