A significant drug-related incident has been uncovered at the Metehan Border Crossing in Northern Cyprus, where a police operation led to the arrest of a courier with 2 kilos of cannabis (Skunk). Officers from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate apprehended the suspect, identified as O.Z.B., on September 7, 2026, around 15:00.
Searches conducted on the suspect and his vehicle revealed illicit substances. In his confession, he stated that he had delivered the drugs to a specific location in Nicosia and earned 300 Euros from this transaction. According to records, this is not O.Z.B.’s first offense; he had previously engaged in a similar act, delivering the same amount of drugs to Nicosia.
The police reported that the suspect claimed to have brought another 2 kilos of drugs from Southern Cyprus on August 30, which he also left in Nicosia. They noted that he was directed by an accomplice. Currently, ongoing investigations are underway, and a request to extend the detention of the suspect for an additional 3 days has been submitted and approved by the court.
It was indicated that statements need to be taken and security camera footage examined as part of the investigation. The seized drugs will be sent for analysis. This process is viewed as a very important step in the fight against drugs in Northern Cyprus.
