In a joint operation conducted by the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate and the Crimes Prevention Branch in Nicosia, A.Y., who was caught with 650 grams of cocaine and various drugs, has completed the legal process against him. It was reported that the suspect had 350 MDMA pills, approximately 10 grams of MDMA powder, and 20 grams of cannabis on him, along with two precise scales and 1,110 US dollars in cash seized during the operation.
It was shared in court that A.Y. entered the country on June 6, 2026, with a 90-day tourist visa from Turkey. The operation took place on August 28, 2026, on the same day the suspect was arrested, a judicial process was initiated. During the investigation, it was noted that A.Y. confessed to acquiring the narcotics through locations sent by an unknown person.
The police reported that A.Y. partially accepted the charges made against him. During the proceedings, the suspect was brought to court twice and was granted a total of 11 days of additional time. Investigations revealed that A.Y. had no permanent ties in the country and was primarily in the area as a tourist.
At the establishment phase, the police stated that the investigation was complete and requested that the suspect be kept in prison. The court decided to hold A.Y. in the central prison for three months until the outcome of his cases.
This operation, conducted to enhance the effectiveness of systems combating drug trafficking, once again highlights the need for increased measures against such activities that threaten public health. The process regarding A.Y. will continue at a later date.
