A 23-year-old suspect, A.S., appeared in court yesterday, accused of stealing 52,000 TL, 300 Euros, and 20 Pounds from a market in Nicosia.
The incident occurred on September 3, 2026, around 3:50 AM, at a market named Çağşak located on Sarayönü Street. It was reported that the suspect entered the market by opening the lock on the door. According to the relevant police officer, A.S. left the market after taking the specified amount of money from the cash register.
Following the incident, security cameras in the area were reviewed, and the suspect’s identity was established. A.S. was quickly apprehended and arrested by the Crime Prevention Unit. It was revealed during the hearing that A.S. voluntarily confessed to the crime.
The police stated that the suspect has no job, home, or financial resources, which led him to commit the theft. Additionally, A.S. mentioned using part of the stolen money to purchase technological devices and deposited the remainder into his bank account.
During a search of A.S.’s residence, various technological devices and a bank card were found and taken as evidence. The police also reported that A.S. is a Jordanian-Cypriot citizen who has been unable to find shelter in the country, resulting in his homelessness.
The police requested that A.S. be detained due to his history of similar offenses. The court decided to send the defendant to prison for a maximum of 30 days.
