New Sewer Projects Launching
The sewer work to be initiated by the Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality was announced following a meeting with local business owners on Kemal Şemiler Street. LTB President Mehmet Harmancı provided information about the projects, emphasizing its significance for the area. This meeting with merchants indicates that local opinions on the project will be taken into account.
Harmancı reminded that Kemal Şemiler Street, where the sewer infrastructure will be transformed, is one of the main entrances to Lefkoşa. He noted that the project will also include improvements to the surface infrastructure, highlighting the street’s importance in social life. The project is set to begin shortly with both infrastructure and surface investments.
Cost and Projections
According to LTB’s statement, a total budget of €3.85 million has been allocated for the new sewer work. In the initial phase, 800 households are expected to be connected to the sewer system, with plans to increase this number to 3,000 in later stages. The fact that the work will begin on Kemal Şemiler Street stands out as a significant step in the process.
Harmancı stated that the excavation of the main street is planned to be completed by September 15, before the schools reopen. He reiterated that necessary measures will be taken to minimize the impact of the work, and that a busy work schedule will help accelerate the process.
Additionally, merchants’ views and suggestions will continue to be gathered while the work is in progress. Community meetings in neighborhoods and streets will ensure public participation in the project.
