A wildfire on Salamina Island, Greece, has been reported to have claimed the lives of two individuals. The fire occurred in a forested area of the Peristeria region, with updates on the situation released to the public.
According to reports from Greek State Television ERT, the traces of the fire were identified as firefighting teams reached the area. Fire Department spokesperson Vasilis Vathrakoyannis noted that nine people were injured during the blaze. Firefighting efforts are still ongoing.
The fire ignited simultaneously at two different locations today around 3:00 PM local time, specifically in the Peristeria and Selinia areas. Teams have been responding to the fire both from the ground and the air.
Due to the fire, residents of the area faced thick smoke. In accordance with safety measures, the Peristeria, Kolones, Dei Halioti, and Perani areas were evacuated. Necessary steps have been taken to ensure the safety of local residents.
