Details of the Agreement
A significant development has occurred in the multi-layered air defense system agreement signed between Greece and Israel, valued at €3 billion. Cypriot Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas stated that a crucial step has been taken for the security of both countries.
Palmas emphasized that this agreement, called “Achilles Shield,” not only provides protection for Greece and Israel but also for Southern Cyprus. He expressed belief that the agreement would enhance strategic security in the region and argued that it would serve as a measure against Turkey’s threats.
Threats and Cooperation
Palmas pointed out that all three countries are facing similar threats and mentioned that risks posed by Turkey could lead to war. He noted that high-level political negotiations took place before the agreement, strengthening military cooperation between Greece and Israel.
Palmas highlighted that Cyprus has been under occupation for a long time and that Greek airspace is violated daily, indicating a situation that raises security concerns in the region. Additionally, he pointed out that similar issues exist in the relations between Israel and Turkey.
