The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and the Social Democracy Party (TDP) announced that they have decided to cooperate in the upcoming local elections. In a joint press statement, the two parties emphasized their goal of strengthening a participatory, democratic, transparent, and accountable governance approach.
It was noted that this collaboration goes beyond just the local elections. This is seen as a reflection of the growing expectations in society for change, consensus, and unified governance. Furthermore, it was evaluated as a continuation of the joint statement and intent of collaboration that emerged during the presidential election process.
The statement emphasized that the fundamental principle of the collaboration will be a shared governance approach that prioritizes public participation. It was expressed that the active participation of mayors, council members, village heads, civil society organizations, and professional associations in decision-making processes would be targeted.
CTP and TDP Party Councils announced their decision to collaborate in the municipalities of Lefkoşa, Girne, Mağusa, Güzelyurt, Lefke, İskele, Değirmenlik-Akıncılar, Çatalköy-Esentepe, Mehmetçik-Büyükkonuk, Erenköy-Karpaz, Mesarya, Dikmen, and Gönyeli-Alayköy.
This decision is expected to contribute to strengthening the culture of local governance and to pave the way for increased community participation.
