A 46-year-old cleaner from Turkmenistan, M.C., who worked in Gönyeli, is accused of stealing clothes and jewelry worth €100,000 from the home where he was employed. The incident occurred on August 18, 2026, and was reported to the police immediately after being noticed by the homeowner, P.S.E. Following the date of the crime, the suspect was apprehended in Nicosia.
When presented to the Nicosia District Court, M.C. is facing charges of theft. The court decided that the suspect should remain in custody for one more day. During the hearing, the police stated that the stolen items from the suspect’s previous residence have not yet been recovered and that the investigation is ongoing.
Although police officers reached the address where M.C. was staying in the Yenikent area, they found that the place he had cleaned was no longer in use, thus they could not conduct a search. It was announced that further measures need to be taken to recover the goods.
It was stated that the investigation is still in its early stages and that statements need to be taken, as well as camera footage expected to be reviewed. In this context, it was mentioned that if M.C. is released, he might tamper with this evidence.
