In Nicosia, Y.K., a 20-year-old citizen of Turkmenistan, was brought back to court after being accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl at a school construction site. According to a police statement regarding the incident, the sexual abuse case, which occurred at the school construction in 2025, came to light when the victim’s mother checked her daughter’s WhatsApp conversations. After finding out that her daughter had been in a sexual relationship with the suspect, the mother reported the matter to the police on August 15, 2026.
Following the complaint, the police stated that Y.K. was detained on the same day, and the investigation is ongoing. Both the girl’s and the suspect’s phones, which are related to the incident, were seized as evidence and will be examined.
The suspect’s statement has also drawn attention. The police noted that he gave a statement admitting to the crime, but this admission needs to be verified. They added that the investigation is continuing and requested the extension of the detention period in court.
