A 20-year-old man from Turkmenistan, identified as Y.K., has been brought before the court in Nicosia following his arrest for sexual exploitation and rape of a 14-year-old girl. During the hearing, the prosecution requested an extension of the suspect’s detention, resulting in a decision for an additional 3 days of custody. In court, Y.K. stated, “That girl was my girlfriend.”
The incident reportedly occurred in 2025 in an empty area of a school under construction in Nicosia. It was noted that the suspect engaged in sexual relations with the 14-year-old girl, a fact that came to light when the girl’s mother checked her WhatsApp messages. On August 15, 2026, the mother reported the situation to the police, filing a complaint.
Following the complaint, police stated that Y.K. was arrested the same day, and in order to further clarify the situation, they seized both the victim’s and the suspect’s phones as evidence. It was noted that the relevant phones would be examined and the investigation would continue.
Y.K. displayed an attitude of acceptance of guilt during his statement and voluntarily provided an explanation. However, it was indicated that a verification and validation process would take place for this statement. Additionally, it was reported that the victim would undergo a medical examination.
The court decided to keep Y.K. in police custody for 3 days to ensure the investigation proceeds effectively.
