A suspect named C.M. was arrested during an operation conducted by the tourism police in the Kalliland region of Gazimağusa. The suspect attempted to flee by throwing his wallet on the ground when he was stopped for a passport check on September 4 but was quickly apprehended by the police.
During a search of the suspect’s wallet, 6 grams of cannabis was seized. Additionally, during a search of C.M.’s residence, 3 more grams of cannabis and a large amount of cash were discovered. It was reported that a total of 189,475 TL, 130 US Dollars, and 50 Euros was seized.
Police officer Hakan Özçürümez stated in court that C.M. confessed to selling 120 grams of drugs imported from South Cyprus over the past two months. He also indicated that the seized money originated from these drug sales.
The police noted that the investigation is still ongoing and requested additional time from the court. A thorough examination of the incident is anticipated. The court decided that the suspect would be held in custody for three days.
It was mentioned that such incidents highlight the necessity to enhance security measures in Gazimağusa Municipality and the tourism sector. Authorities emphasized that precautions would be increased to prevent similar situations.
