On September 5, 2026, an incident occurred in Girne where an 81-year-old man was assaulted by a 55-year-old individual for slowly crossing the pedestrian crosswalk. The incident took place around 10:30 AM on İskenderun Street.
The altercation stemmed from a dispute between the 55-year-old individual, H.A., and the elderly man, R.B. H.A., angered by R.B.’s slow movement, slapped him in the face during a moment of rage.
The assault left R.B. seriously injured, and the glasses he was wearing at the time fell and broke upon hitting the ground. Following the attack, the situation was reported to the police.
As a result of the investigation conducted by the Girne Police Department, H.A. has been arrested. A detailed investigation regarding the incident is ongoing, and the police are working to gather more information related to the case.
