In Nicosia, an investigation into the illegal procurement and distribution of prescription-required Lyrica pills has led to the arrest of three individuals. One of the suspects, Y.T., was released on bail, while the other two suspects, Ö.D. and S.G., will remain in custody for an additional 8 days.
The police shared details of the arrest process, stating that on August 13, 2026, around 15:50, suspicious activity was detected in the vehicle of suspect Ö.D. during a patrol on Şehit Mustafa Ahmet Ruso Street. During a search of the vehicle, 165 prescription-required Lyrica pills were found. Ö.D. claimed in his statement that he had given some of these pills to S.G. and that other pills might also be found with another individual, Y.T.
Following Ö.D.’s statement, a search of S.G. revealed 9 Lyrica pills and approximately 5 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis. At Y.T.’s home, 1400 Lyrica pills were confiscated as well. All these findings led to the arrest of the three suspects.
Police provided information on the progress of the investigation, stating that S.G. indicated that the drugs and pills were given to him by Ö.D. Y.T. also confirmed that he obtained the pills found in his home from Ö.D. Ö.D. admitted to giving pills to S.G. but claimed he had no connection to any drugs.
A police officer reported that the investigation regarding Y.T. has been completed, which led to the request for bail. The investigation into Ö.D. and S.G. is still ongoing, and the drugs will be analyzed. Following the request for continued detention, a travel ban was placed on Y.T., and it was decided that he must pay a cash bail of 20,000 lira and sign a bond of 500,000 lira.
Thus, Y.T. was released to await trial without detention, while Ö.D. and S.G. were ordered to remain in custody for 8 more days.
