The Port Authority, under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, announced that claims regarding the FİLO JET captain lacking a license are untrue. The Port Authority conducted a comprehensive evaluation regarding the legal validity of the captain’s role on the vessel.
In the statement made, it was highlighted that the captain’s license issued by the Republic of Honduras is recognized as a Seafarer Qualification Certificate in accordance with international maritime standards. It was expressed that national and competency lists established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) serve as a basis for the recognition of these documents.
It was indicated that the FİLO JET captain’s qualification certificate is valid until October 30, 2029, and that he is authorized to command vessels weighing up to 3,000 tons. The captain’s credentials were noted to have passed necessary verification procedures and to meet international standards.
The Port Authority emphasized that allegations of the captain being “unlicensed” are baseless and clarified that the validity and suitability of the captain’s credentials are separate issues. The true causes of the maritime accident will be determined once the ongoing investigation is completed.
Additionally, the Port Authority announced their intention to take legal action against individuals who manipulate documents on social media to mislead the public. They stated that their aim is to inform the public accurately and to continue sharing reliable information to prevent speculation.
