Drug Arrest Incident
On August 22, 2026, during an operation at the Derinya Border Crossing, a suspect named S.K. was apprehended while bringing drugs from South Cyprus to Northern Cyprus. A search conducted on S.K. revealed 10 grams of cocaine and 1 gram of cannabis hidden inside a cigarette pack in a sock. This incident was noted as a significant development in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the region.
Arrest and Investigation Process
Police officer Çağlar Kahyaoğlu stated in court that they received a tip-off regarding S.K. on August 22 at 6:45 PM. Police teams identified the suspect as he was preparing to cross from the Derinya Border Crossing into Northern Cyprus. Upon his arrest, a search revealed the cigarette pack containing the illicit substances.
Kahyaoğlu expressed that S.K. had smuggled the drugs from South Cyprus and reported that the investigation regarding the incident had been completed, requesting the suspect’s release on appropriate bail. The court ruled for S.K. to be released until his case is heard. Accordingly, the suspect was required to pay €3,500 in cash bail and have a guarantor sign a personal guarantee note worth 1.5 million TL.
