A significant quantity of narcotics was seized during a joint operation conducted in Nicosia. The operation, carried out by the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Department and the Crimes Prevention Branch, resulted in the confiscation of 650 grams of cocaine, 350 various narcotic pills, and other substances containing drugs.
The individual arrested during the operation, identified as A.Y., was brought to court yesterday morning. According to the statements made during the court proceedings, it was reported that the suspect possessed a total of 336 whole, 2 half, and 12 broken MDMA pills.
Additionally, a blue powder substance, cannabis-type drugs, and another substance were also confiscated by the police. Two precision scales believed to have traces of drugs and cash amounting to 1,110 USD, allegedly obtained from drug sales, were also taken as evidence.
During the court session, it was learned that A.Y. confessed to obtaining the substances from another individual. This revelation is considered a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
The police stated that the seized substances would be sent for analysis, and there are also surveillance footage that needs examination as part of the investigation. Furthermore, it was announced that there is still an individual being sought in connection to this case. Accordingly, it was decided that A.Y. would remain in custody for three days to ensure the smooth progression of the investigation.
Such operations in Nicosia signal a continuing vigorous effort against drug trafficking, and similar operations are expected in the future.
