In a drug operation conducted in Nicosia, 25-year-old O.G.E. was arrested with 120 grams of cannabis and cash totaling 38,500 TL and 10 Euros, believed to be from drug trafficking. The court ordered her to be held in custody pending trial. O.G.E.’s 29-month-old baby was taken into protective custody by social services.
Police stated that, during a search carried out at O.G.E.’s residence on August 21, 2026, they found narcotic substances and cash. Following an 11-day detention period related to the incident, it was reported that O.G.E.’s husband is being sought for drug offenses, but he has not yet been located.
According to information presented in court, O.G.E.’s baby has been placed under the supervision of social services, and it was noted that the child is not attending school. It was also expressed that O.G.E. was the primary provider for the household due to the investigation against her husband.
Similar to the fragmentation of many families, O.G.E.’s situation raises social impacts. Police have reported that if O.G.E. were to be released, she might contact the wanted individual and there is a risk of her fleeing.
Considering the potential risks of releasing the suspect due to the dangers posed by drug offenses in society, the court has decided to maintain her custody. The judge ruled that O.G.E. should remain in custody for a period not exceeding one month.
