Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced new security measures aimed at effectively monitoring entry and exit processes in the country. In this context, it was revealed that the Migration System and E-Visa systems will be implemented. Üstel stated that citizens from Syria, Nigeria, and Armenia would be specifically included in the E-Visa application.

Emphasizing the need to enhance security measures, Üstel remarked, “The state must know who, for what purpose, when, and with what status enters Northern Cyprus,” highlighting the necessity of registering everyone entering the country. He pointed out that with the new system, controls could be conducted not only at border gates but also before individuals arrive in the country.

E-Visa Application and Monitoring Process

Prime Minister Üstel indicated that during the first phase of the E-Visa system, the existing consular visa application for citizens of Syria, Nigeria, and Armenia would be lifted. He stressed that applications would be subject to preliminary examination by the Immigration Office. Depending on the individual’s purpose of entry, necessary security checks would be conducted with input from the police and relevant institutions.

In addition, Üstel mentioned that changes would be made regarding the entry procedures for foreign students, stating that mere acceptance from universities would no longer suffice. He noted that students would submit their acceptance documents online to the Immigration Office, with evaluations made in accordance with recommendations from the General Directorate of Police.

Strengthening Legal and Technical Infrastructure

Üstel noted that the E-Visa Regulation has been restructured, and necessary changes have been made to residence permits and visas. He conveyed that the government is seriously working to address gaps in security. Stating, “We are building the infrastructure for security; if there are legal gaps, we are completing them,” Üstel also mentioned that personnel needs are being addressed during this process.

He highlighted the strengthening of information sharing among state institutions and stated that they have digitalized monitoring mechanisms to create a more effective tracking system. Emphasizing, “We advocate for opening to the world in a controlled and secure manner,” the Prime Minister reiterated that they will not compromise on public order and national security.

A government official concluded with the statement, “Today we have a stronger legal infrastructure and a more robust technical infrastructure than yesterday,” adding that they would take all necessary measures. He reiterated that while the country’s doors will remain open to the world, the state will control who enters through those doors and for what purposes.
