E.Z.A. has been brought to court on charges of fraud for allegedly purchasing a total of 234,000 TL worth of gold from two jewelers in Nicosia and Kyrenia using someone else’s payment method and then selling this gold to other jewelers for cash. The suspect is also facing charges of money laundering, using a fake identity, and committing fraud through information systems.

A police officer from the Financial Crimes Unit provided information regarding transactions carried out between August 3-4, 2026, stating that the suspect purchased gold using accounts belonging to others through the Hepi Wallet app. It was reported that the gold obtained was sold at other jewelers, and the cash was deposited into the suspect’s account via ATMs before being transferred to other individuals.

Furthermore, it was revealed that the suspect received a commission of 10,000 TL for these transactions. Following an investigation launched upon a fraud complaint, E.Z.A. was captured while attempting to leave Ercan Airport. During the arrest, two mobile phones, bank cards, and SIM cards were found on the suspect, which have been confiscated.

The police noted that the suspect’s mobile phone contained numerous phone numbers and credit card information belonging to other individuals. It was also highlighted that the suspect had used different phone numbers for transactions. The police stated they would investigate to determine the ownership of these numbers.

In court, the suspect defended himself by claiming to be a very wealthy businessman, stating that he spends 9 million TL each time he visits the country and that the amounts mentioned by the police were trivial for him. E.Z.A. claimed he was on vacation and had made purchases using a friend’s card.

The judge ordered the suspect to be held in custody and to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 3 months. It was mentioned that the investigation would continue.
