Search and Rescue Operations Enter Day 11
The search and rescue efforts for the 14 missing individuals from the Filo Jet tragedy have entered their 11th day. Operations to reach these individuals, who went missing after the ship capsized off the coast of Kyrenia during the Kyrenia-Taşucu voyage, are ongoing without interruption. Although the wreckage is located at a depth of 554 meters, making the search process challenging, teams continue their fight.
Updates and Teams Involved
In addition to the ongoing search activities, the involvement of a specialized company experienced in deep-water searches has provided a boost to the technical and operational preparations. Of the 28 individuals reported missing in the accident, 14 bodies have been recovered, while search efforts for the remaining 14 individuals are still being conducted both at sea and from the air.
Military aircraft, drones, and helicopters are monitoring the wreck and its surroundings around the clock. During the initial day of the incident, the bodies of 8 individuals were recovered, and in further operations conducted by both the TCG Alemdar and TCG Işın vessels, 6 more bodies were located.
Should it not be possible to bring external teams to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC), it is indicated that reaching the wreck will take much longer. This situation could significantly impact the timeline for locating the missing persons and may complicate the search and rescue operations further.
