The police arrested 16 individuals who were illegally residing in the country between 2020 and 2026 during operations carried out in the Lapta and Bogaz regions. Following these operations, the suspects were brought to the Kyrenia District Court on August 14.
Police officer Faruk Borucu, serving at the Lapta Police Station, stated in court that 9 individuals were detained during operations conducted on the morning and evening of August 14. Borucu noted that these individuals had not entered the country legally and were found to be residing here illegally.
Additionally, another operation conducted in the Bogaz region revealed that 5 individuals from Bangladesh were also living in the country without authorization. These individuals were arrested due to their illegal residency on various dates between 2021 and 2026.
During the court proceedings, it was announced that deportation procedures would be initiated, and information was provided that the investigation is ongoing. The police also requested an extension of custody for the suspects.
Some of the suspects, who were given the right to speak, expressed that they were victims due to their employers and requested to provide additional statements. Judge Mine G. Serden decided to keep the suspects in police custody for an additional 3 days due to the ongoing investigation.
