In traffic enforcement operations in Girne, police teams inspected 765 vehicles. A total of 94 drivers were reported for violations of traffic rules during these checks. These operations were conducted by the Traffic Division of the Girne Police Station and patrol teams last night.
According to the results of the inspections, the majority of violations were related to speeding. Out of the reported drivers, 34 were fined for excessive speed, 23 for not obeying traffic signals, and 6 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, one driver was reported for riding a motorcycle without a helmet, while another was penalized for driving without a license.
Other notable violations included reckless driving, failing to obey police stop orders, and dangerous driving. Two drivers who did not wear seatbelts and two drivers using uninsured vehicles were also included in the list, along with 22 drivers categorized under other traffic offenses.
The police emphasized that such enforcement operations will continue regularly. However, some local residents claimed that these inspections are inadequate, demanding more measures to prevent speeding shows and reckless driving, particularly during certain hours.
Reports from the region indicated that there are motorcycles engaging in disruptive driving, especially on the Girne ring road, leading to frequent complaints about such drivers. Residents are calling for more effective police enforcement to address the issues they are facing.
Citizens worried that the dangerous behavior of these drivers and motorcycles could harm the public are requesting to see concrete actions from authorities and the implementation of necessary measures.
