Festival Opening
The 7th Babutsa Culture and Art Festival organized by the Geçitkale-Serdarlı Municipality kicked off with a magnificent parade. This event aims to promote the babutsa, an important element of the region’s traditional Cypriot culture.
At the festival venue, visitors encountered local products, handcrafted items, and various Cypriot delicacies displayed at the booths. Numerous cultural and artistic events were organized, providing enjoyable moments for participants.
Cultural Emphasis in Speeches
In the opening remarks, Geçitkale-Serdarlı Mayor Halil Kasım expressed his pleasure in hosting this organization. He noted that the festival reflects the cultural values of Serdarlı and the surrounding community, reiterating the municipality’s commitment to supporting culture, art, and sports.
Minister of Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu emphasized the significance of festival activities in carrying culture from the past to the future in his speech. He indicated that the babutsa is an important cultural heritage unique to the Turkish Cypriot people and that such organizations provide significant opportunities for promoting identity on an international scale.
Following the speeches, the Geçitkale-Serdarlı Municipality Folk Dance Group presented various performances, while music recitals and other stage events continued the festival. Additionally, as the closing event of the festival, a concert by the famous artist Mustafa Ceceli is scheduled for tomorrow evening.
