Ünal Üstel, the leader of the National Unity Party (UBP) and Prime Minister, made significant assessments ahead of the local elections in Nicosia. Üstel pointed out that since the Turkish Municipality of Nicosia separated from the UBP administration, there haven’t been adequate projects implemented in the city. He particularly emphasized the current administration’s inadequacy with the phrase, ‘Not a stone has been placed on top of another.’
During his visits to party organizations in areas such as Metehan, Ortaköy, Göçmenköy, Hamitköy, Küçük Kaymaklı, and Surlariçi, Üstel engaged with both UBP members and local residents. Reflecting on the city administration’s past performance during his visits, Üstel noted significant differences between the past achievements of the previous UBP administration and the current one in Nicosia.
Stating that the current management of the Turkish Municipality of Nicosia is inadequate, Üstel stressed the need to recall the successful implementations during the UBP era. He also highlighted the importance of the actions taken since the government took office for the country.
Prime Minister Üstel expressed support for UBP’s candidate for the Turkish Municipality of Nicosia, Mehmet Aktunç, believing that Aktunç’s background as an architect and his vision would advance the city. In this context, he drew attention to the importance of the election and argued that citizens should make the right choice.
Üstel noted that the foundation of the value-added projects from previous UBP terms was a strong political will, pointing out that many projects initiated earlier were completed during their government. He also criticized the opposition for failing to implement projects in the past and stated that it is necessary to question why these projects are still not being realized today.
Finally, Üstel asserted that the government has a strong commitment to related projects, claiming they will continue to contribute to the country’s development.
