The Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Union (KTHES) stated that all candidates who successfully passed the III. Degree High Nurse exam should be appointed to permanent positions. The union emphasized the critical importance of this step for the sustainability of healthcare services.
In a statement regarding the exam results held on June 7, KTHES’s Board of Directors mentioned that during discussions with the Minister of Finance, it was promised that successful candidates would be appointed to permanent positions should an additional authority be requested from the Ministry of Health. It was noted that the final decision would be made by the Prime Minister.
Nursing Shortage and New Hospitals
The statement indicated that especially in an environment where there is an existing nursing shortage and the opening of new hospitals is planned, simply employing successful candidates will not meet the needs. KTHES pointed out that this will become even more challenging with the operation of new facilities.
In the union’s statement, it was expressed that securing permanent positions for professionals working in the health sector is essential for the sustainability of healthcare services, stating, “We believe the Prime Minister will make an appropriate decision in this matter.”
