The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) hosted representatives from the Turkish Cypriot Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS). This meeting took place under the leadership of CTP General President Sıla Usar İncirli, accompanied by members of parliament Filiz Besim and Şifa Çolakoğlu, as well as MYK members Murat Şenkul and Feriha Tel. The KTOEÖS delegation included President Ahmet Karaoğulları, General Secretary Adnan Zekai, Financial Secretary Umut Yolsal, Organization Secretary Erkan Bulak, and Board Member Erdoğan Işık.
Several important issues were discussed during the meeting. In particular, amendments needed in the Migration Law and the Single Social Security Law were highlighted. KTOEÖS drew the CTP delegation’s attention with a document titled “Why Changes Should Be Made in the Migration Law and Single Social Security Laws?” They also addressed issues concerning teachers’ financial, social, and retirement rights.
Issues Regarding Teachers and Proposed Solutions
KTOEÖS conveyed its suggestions for solutions and demands for legal changes regarding the inequalities and grievances arising from current legal regulations. Existing problems in the education system, inadequacies in school infrastructure, and issues with full-day education practices were discussed, along with the staffing shortages for the upcoming academic year.
The insufficient number of teacher vacancies has led to challenges in meeting necessary employment requirements. İncirli emphasized that this situation could cause problems as the new educational term begins, highlighting the urgent need for necessary actions in education.
Vision for a New Education System
CTP General President Sıla Usar İncirli outlined the vision they aim for the education system. She stated, “We will establish an education system that strengthens teachers’ working conditions and rights.” She noted their intention to create a system aimed at enhancing the quality of public education and resolving infrastructure issues in schools.
İncirli emphasized that these educational systems will be developed collaboratively with parents, teachers, students, and the Ministry of Education. It was underlined that participation in decision-making processes will lead to a student-centered, quality public education system at every stage of education.
