A devastating fire broke out in the village of Siviri in the Halkidiki region of Greece, impacting around 4,000 acres of forested land. Several homes and vehicles were also damaged. Local officials report that the fire has caused severe ecological damage to the surrounding area as well.

Yannis Kufidis, the Deputy Regional Governor of Halkidiki, stated in an interview with the Greek News Agency AMNA that the process of bringing the fire under control is progressing positively. He indicated that firefighting teams are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared for any potential flare-ups.
Kufidis warned that due to strong winds during the night, there was a danger of the fire spreading towards Furka. However, he noted that the swift intervention of teams prevented the flames from spreading uncontrollably, thus mitigating the fire’s impact.

Initial assessments indicate that approximately 7 to 8 homes and several vehicles have been affected by the fire. The destruction of roughly 4,000 acres of forest has also rendered the nearby biological treatment facility completely inoperable. Kufidis emphasized that further assessment of the infrastructure damage will be possible only after the fire is fully extinguished.
Ongoing firefighting efforts continue to be a source of great concern for the local community and officials. Necessary steps are being taken to carry out damage assessment after the fire.
