The head of the Fuel Station Association, Levent Çağdal, stated that fuel prices in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are more affordable when compared to Southern Cyprus and Turkey. Notably, the price of euro diesel in the TRNC is 67 TL, while it stands at 99.24 TL in Southern Cyprus and 83 TL in Turkey, creating a significant difference.
Details of the Prices
Çağdal pointed out that the price per liter of unleaded 95 gasoline is 68.12 TL in the TRNC, 88.09 TL in Southern Cyprus, and 73 TL in Turkey. For 98 gasoline, he stated that prices in the TRNC are 69.12 TL, while in Southern Cyprus, they are 93.10 TL. These prices are seen as an indicator that the TRNC retains its position as the most affordable fuel market in the region.
Price Advantages and Current Issues
Çağdal mentioned that these advantages in fuel prices have positive effects on the transportation, tourism, and shipping sectors, but also highlighted that the increase in the cost of living is due to high prices of basic food and daily necessity products. He emphasized that concrete steps need to be taken to prevent uncontrolled price increases in supermarkets.
Furthermore, President Çağdal stated that in order to maintain the price advantages provided by low tax policies in fuel, systematic solutions must be implemented to ensure overall price stability.
