A Kyrgyz citizen, M.B.K., severely injured his former girlfriend, Z.A., by stabbing her multiple times at a supermarket in the Taşkınköy area of Nicosia. Following the incident, the suspect was arrested and brought back to court, where it was decided that he would remain in custody.
The suspect’s lawyer claimed that M.B.K. had come to Cyprus to assist the young woman after she cried out, “My bosses are torturing me,” during their relationship. The lawyer also suggested that M.B.K. had an emotionally sensitive nature.
Development of the Incident
According to statements made in court, M.B.K. had a brief relationship with Z.A. in Turkey last January. After their relationship ended, the young woman began working at a nightclub. M.B.K. came to the TRNC because he did not want Z.A. to work there.
The suspect returned to the country on July 30, accompanied by a friend. However, following the rejection of his request to win Z.A. back, he was indecisive about whether to go to Ercan Airport on August 3. He then returned and bought a knife from a shop in the Ortaköy area of Nicosia and began following Z.A.
The stabbing incident occurred on the morning of August 3. Inside the supermarket, M.B.K. repeatedly stabbed Z.A. while nearby citizens attempted to intervene, but the suspect managed to injure himself to prevent anyone from approaching him.
Health Status and Investigation
Z.A. was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, and her condition was reported to be critical. Police stated that the young woman had undergone three surgeries so far. In the investigation conducted regarding the incident, over 60 statements were collected, and the suspect’s mobile phones were sent for examination.
Authorities indicated that the blood samples obtained from M.B.K. had also been sent to Ankara for analysis. Warnings were raised that the incident could evolve into a planned murder. Additionally, it was noted that a person who arrived in the TRNC and was with M.B.K. would also be questioned.
This shocking incident has stirred public outrage, prompting action from the prosecutor’s office. Prosecutor Şayan Ergüden expressed concerns that the suspect’s release could pose a danger to Z.A. and requested that he remain in custody. The court, referencing the seriousness of the situation, ruled that M.B.K. must stay in prison for no more than three months.
