The Mayor of Girne, Murat Şenkul, criticized the 1.4 million TL cost of the opening ceremony for a project worth approximately 1 million TL, stating that such an expense is unacceptable. Expressing his views on social media, Şenkul emphasized the need to rethink the use of public resources.
In his post, Şenkul argued that the country does not have a real resource problem, but rather faces issues with the mismanagement of resources, highlighting that the opening costs were excessive. “Can we not call this a kind of bankruptcy?” asked the mayor, questioning why more was spent than the investment itself.

The mayor noted that the government’s financial situation is becoming increasingly difficult and is being managed through borrowing. He stressed that such expenditures illustrate the irrational use of public resources, stating that spending that exceeds budgets occurs without any reconsideration.
