The Gazimağusa and Güzelyurt Police Departments reported significant results from simultaneous law enforcement and traffic checks conducted on September 9, 2026. During the inspections, 10 individuals living in the country without permission were apprehended, along with 4 others arrested for possession of illegal drugs. A total of 1,936 drivers were checked during these controls, leading to 437 drivers being reported for various traffic offenses.
According to information shared by the Police Press Officer, the inspections took place between 8:00 PM and midnight. In Gazimağusa, the checks focused on entertainment venues, nightclubs, areas selling alcoholic beverages, and places with high public presence. During the controls, 10 individuals were apprehended for illegal residency.
In the Gazimağusa checks, 1,258 drivers were examined. Of these drivers, 141 were reported for exceeding speed limits, 29 for driving without a valid license, 16 for operating vehicles without inspection, 11 for failing to obey traffic signs, and 4 for driving without insurance. Additionally, one driver was caught driving without a license and insurance, while another was apprehended for using a mobile phone while driving.
Furthermore, 129 drivers were reported for various other traffic offenses in Gazimağusa. As a result of these inspections, 3 vehicles were removed from traffic. In Güzelyurt, checks also targeted entertainment venues and areas frequented by large crowds.
During the checks in Güzelyurt, 4 individuals were arrested for possessing illegal drugs. A total of 678 drivers were inspected in the area, with 29 cited for speeding, 7 for driving without permission, 5 for not wearing seatbelts, and 3 for using tinted windows and non-silent exhausts.
Additionally, one driver was reported for not following traffic light rules and another for violating the regulations for using electric scooters. In total, 100 drivers were reported for various traffic offenses for legal action to be initiated.
