After the Sea Accident: What Happened
Following the sea accident off the coast of Girne, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced that search efforts are ongoing. Üstel confirmed that the remains of one more individual had been recovered, raising the total death count to 13. He also emphasized that 15 people are still missing.
Üstel stated that those rescued have been discharged from the hospital and reported that all individuals receiving treatment have made a full recovery. It was noted that the search and rescue operations are being conducted by the Turkish Naval Forces’ TCG IŞIN and TCG Alemdar vessels.
Identification Process of the Remains
The Prime Minister also mentioned that the recently recovered remains have been identified as belonging to a woman, and necessary procedures for identifying her have commenced. It was expressed that identity verification is being carried out through the police force, families will be contacted, and DNA tests will be conducted if necessary.
Üstel highlighted that search and rescue efforts are continuing at a depth of 554 meters, noting that these challenging conditions are contributing to the slow progress of the operation. He thanked the healthcare workers who have been working around the clock, stating that 139 doctors and approximately 200 nurses have participated in this effort.
