A serious incident that took place in Nicosia has drawn significant attention. A 22-year-old woman named Z.A. was severely injured at Metropol Supermarket and was taken to the hospital. The suspect, identified as M.B.K., was brought to court today.
Background of the Incident
As part of the police investigation, it was revealed that the suspect had been in a relationship with Z.A. since January 2026. It was reported that upon learning that the young woman had signed a new contract with a nightclub where she previously worked, the suspect entered Cyprus on a “tourist” visa on August 30, 2026. Renting a villa in Kyrenia, the suspect managed to get Z.A. to come to the villa on the night of August 1. However, the young woman escaped from the villa and managed to flee through her boss.
Suspect’s Trip to Ortaköy and Development of the Incident
Upon discovering that Z.A. was in Ortaköy, Turkey, M.B.K. attempted to return to his country on August 3 but, after burning his ticket, he headed towards Ortaköy. After finding Z.A., he purchased a knife and began to follow her. Shortly after, in Taşkınköy, he attacked Z.A. with the knife and subsequently injured himself.
Regarding the health status of Z.A., who was taken to the hospital after the incident, the police stated that the young woman is in stable condition and underwent a second surgery on August 5, but her life remains in danger. The police reported that they have taken over 30 statements regarding the incident and will take statements from 10 more witnesses, and that the suspect’s statement will be verified. The court ruled that M.B.K. will remain in custody for another 7 days.
The suspect’s attorney claimed that Z.A. received threats from the suspect amounting to 1.5 million TL and asserted that this should be investigated. The attorney also presented to the court that the suspect has been receiving treatment at a psychiatric center in Istanbul and is taking medication.
