Project Developments
Three significant projects have recently come to the forefront. As reported by the Kathimerini newspaper, various types of investment initiatives are being observed in the Trozena and Binatlı areas of Limassol, as well as in the Paphos district of Latchi. There are various issues concerning the zoning and environmental permit processes, site selection, and environmental impacts of these projects.
Particularly, as the construction of a hotel complex in Latchi approaches completion, it has been noted that there are some challenges during the licensing phase. In contrast, a “revitalization project” being carried out by an Israeli investor in Trozena has made significant progress. However, it is also emphasized that the necessary permits have yet to be finalized.
Educational Institution and Affordable Housing Issues
In the Binatlı area, the construction of a Jewish school with a capacity of 1,500 students is underway. This project is reported to have caused serious traffic and zoning issues in the city. Additionally, it is stated that the Limassol Municipality has complained about not being consulted on the excavation works related to the project.
Finally, the growing influence of Israeli investors in the real estate sector has raised concerns, particularly regarding challenges faced by the local population in obtaining affordable housing. This situation is also sparking discussions in some circles about “light colonization.”
