Commemorating the Cyprus Peace Operation
The 52nd anniversary of Lefke’s freedom was celebrated with two separate ceremonies organized to commemorate the milestone of the second phase of the Cyprus Peace Operation. On this special day, the martyrs who lost their lives for Lefke’s liberation were not forgotten.
The first ceremony took place at the Kemal Özpalper Martyr’s Cemetery. Following established protocols, wreaths were laid at the cemetery, and a moment of silence was observed. The National Anthem was sung, and flags were hoisted to the top. After signing the martyr’s book, prayers were offered for those who had passed away.
Second Ceremony at Lefke Atatürk Park
The second event, held in celebration of the anniversary of liberation, took place at Lefke Atatürk Park. Here, flowers were laid at the Atatürk Monument, and another moment of silence was observed. Following the National Anthem, flags were again hoisted. The ceremony also featured various activities to mark the occasion.
Students reading poems added a special touch to the celebration. İzel Altuner, a teacher from Lefke İstiklal Primary School, delivered a speech on behalf of the District Governor, emphasizing the community’s struggle for liberation.
Lefke Mayor Aziz Kaya also took the floor to recount the people’s struggle. The event concluded with a folk dance performance organized by the Yedidalga Folklore Society.
All these events symbolize the joy of Lefke’s liberation and the unity of the people.
