The Enthusiasm of Victory Day on August 30th
This year, the 104th anniversary of Victory Day on August 30th will be celebrated with various events in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. This special day will be marked by ceremonies taking place in all districts, particularly in places like Akdoğan, Geçitkale, and Mehmetçik. The historical commemoration will involve public participation across the country.
Ceremonies in Nicosia
The ceremonies in Nicosia will commence on the morning of August 30th at 09:30 in front of the Atatürk Monument. After the wreath-laying ceremony, there will be a moment of silence, followed by the raising of flags accompanied by the National Anthem. This significant event will conclude with the signing of the Special Guest Book.
Following this, the official parade on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard will begin at 10:00. After inspecting the parade units, the public will share the celebratory spirit, and a representative from the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces Command will give a speech. The event will continue with a parade.
In Gazimağusa, various activities will take place throughout the day. The ceremony in front of the Victory Monument will begin at 16:30, while another event on Fazıl Polat Paşa Boulevard will be held at 17:00. The second ceremony will include speeches, poetry readings, folk dance performances, and concerts.
Activities in Other Districts
The ceremony in Kyrenia will take place at 16:30 in front of the Atatürk Monument. Güzelyurt and İskele are also among the regions where events are being organized. In Güzelyurt, celebrations will be held at 18:00 in front of the Atatürk Monument, and in İskele at 09:00 at Ecevit Square. In Lefke, the morning event will start at 08:45.
Additionally, celebrations in localities like Akdoğan, Geçitkale, and Mehmetçik will take place at 09:00.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Nicosia, Ali Murat Başçeri, and his wife will host a reception at the embassy building at 19:30 at the end of the day.
Official Messages and Celebrations
The Speaker of the Republic Assembly, Ziya Öztürkler, stated that the Victory of August 30th is a clear expression of the Turkish nation’s will for independence and freedom. Öztürkler expressed that the Turkish Cypriot people embrace this spirit and determination in their struggle.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel emphasized that the Victory of August 30th affirms the Turkish nation’s commitment to its homeland and celebrated this meaningful day alongside the motherland Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot people. He paid tribute to Gazı Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades, expressing gratitude towards veterans.
Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ataoğlu and Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz highlighted the importance of Victory Day as attributed to independence and freedom. Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu regarded this historic day as the biggest victory in the struggle of the Turkish nation.
In their messages, all state officials commemorated Gazı Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the heroes of the War of Independence with mercy, expressing their gratitude to martyrs.
