The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Women’s Organization has initiated a new project for girls preparing to start primary school within the boundaries of Nicosia District. This project was launched in Haspolat with the spirit of women’s solidarity and announced under the name ‘Dreams are Woven.’ The project’s first meeting began with an event held in Haspolat, where women came together to focus on knitting handmade pencil cases for the children.
Purpose and Significance of the Project
The aim of the ‘Dreams are Woven’ project is to provide support for girls who are about to start primary school. The CTP Women’s Organization emphasized that the project is not just a craft activity; it is seen as a manifestation of women’s desire to fulfill their social responsibilities and support one another. The project aims to expand with the participation of women from different regions.
Doğuş Derya, the President of the CTP Women’s Organization, highlighted the role of women and the importance of solidarity. While expressing her concerns from different perspectives, she addressed the burden of educational needs on families. Derya stated that access to education for children is a fundamental right and that they are fighting for this. She also noted that solidarity is closely related to the willingness to act with a sense of social responsibility.
Strong Solidarity Among Women
Alev Şensoy explained the significance of participating in the project. Şensoy indicated that the essence of the ‘Dreams are Woven’ project lies in the solidarity of women, their production, and their commitment to the future of children. She expressed that each pencil case will carry the love, effort, and time of the woman who knits it, adding that she believes in the power that comes from women acting together.
Güllü Törer, the President of the CTP Women’s Organization in Haspolat, who hosted the first event, emphasized their satisfaction with the start of this project. Törer stated that they are not just doing craftsmanship here, but they are also sharing their love and time. She expressed hope that this project will start to spread to other regions as well.
It was mentioned that yarn donations were collected to kick off the project’s first phase and that donations will continue to ensure that the ‘Dreams are Woven’ project can reach more girls. These contributions are of great importance for the sustainability of the events within the project.
The CTP Women’s Organization called on those who wish to contribute to the project to take action for goodwill. The women’s organization reiterated that solidarity will always continue, emphasizing the message, ‘Lives woven together grow stronger together.’
