Reason for the Ban
The Ministry of Interior has announced the extension of the ban on the flight of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles around Ercan Airport. This measure is said to have been taken to ensure “flight safety.” The continuation of the ban reflects the importance of security conditions surrounding the airport.
District Governor Fadıl Keleş stated that the ban applies to the areas surrounding the villages of Akıncılar, Erdemli, Kırklar, Gaziköy, Gaziler, Paşaköy, Yiğitler, Kırıkkale, Meriç, Dilekkaya, and Balıkesir. The restriction on flights of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles will remain in effect for the next month and will continue until further notice.

The Republic of Turkey has further highlighted this situation by deploying F-16 fighter jets at Ercan Airport. The presence of F-16s in the region necessitates the adoption of decisions banning the flight of unmanned aerial vehicles.
