Traffic teams affiliated with the General Directorate of Police conducted extensive checks across the country. A total of 2,477 drivers were evaluated during these inspections, with 399 reported for violating traffic rules. This indicates that behaviors endangering the safety of drivers and pedestrians are prevalent.
Of the 438 traffic violations reported, the largest share came from 187 drivers exceeding the legal speed limit. Additionally, it was determined that 19 drivers were operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol. During the checks, one individual was also found driving without a license and another without insurance.
Details of the Inspections
The checks did not stop at just speed and alcohol-related violations. 17 drivers were reported for failing to wear seat belts, and 6 drivers were penalized for driving vehicles without a valid inspection. Furthermore, 26 individuals received fines for driving without a vehicle registration certificate.
Noteworthy Incidents
During an inspection on the Güzelyurt-Lefkoşa highway, the discovery of a metal baton in a vehicle raised serious safety concerns, leading to the arrest of the driver, Ö.B. Additionally, action was taken against another driver for failing to adhere to traffic signs.
As a result of the inspections, numerous drivers were penalized with a total of 141 different traffic offenses for disregarding traffic rules. This underscores the necessity for continuous inspections to ensure traffic safety.
