German Federal Parliament member Maximillian Krah visited Cyprus for a series of meetings upon the invitation of the House of Representatives. He first met with Serhat Akpınar, the General Secretary of the Democratic Party (DP) and a member of parliament from Kyrenia, where he was welcomed by DP Chairman Fikri Ataoğlu and party officials.
Akpınar stated that the meeting took place in a very warm and constructive atmosphere, where they conducted a comprehensive assessment of the Cyprus negotiation process and the issues faced by the Turkish Cypriot people. He expressed that they addressed the Cyprus issue within the holistic framework of history, reminding of the Turkish side’s willingness for a solution while also emphasizing the ongoing isolation measures.
Visit to the Turkish Cypriot Municipalities Union
Krah also visited the Turkish Cypriot Municipalities Union during his trip. This meeting provided an opportunity for discussions with Güzelyurt Mayor Mahmut Özçınar and other mayors regarding the problems faced by the Turkish Cypriot community. Muammer Güneş, Director of the Turkish Cypriot Municipalities Union, and Ayşe Oyal Eraltaylı from the Foreign Relations Unit were also present at the meeting.
Özçınar highlighted that informing Krah about their difficulties would help the international community better understand the issues of the Turkish Cypriot people. These visits are expected to contribute to the solution of the Cyprus issue.
