A severe storm and rainfall affecting the Iskele region caused significant damage. According to meteorological data, winds reached speeds of 88 kilometers per hour, impacting 11 farm buildings, a storage facility, a village club, as well as several homes and beehives. Due to the storm, fallen electricity poles in Kuzucuk caused a small fire.
Immediately following the events, Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz and Agriculture and Natural Resources Minister Hüseyin Çavuş inspected the area. Oğuz stated that the storm began at the Iskele coast and reached Altınova, resulting in damage to various structures and agricultural fields. There were no reports of casualties or injuries, and no livestock losses were noted.
Minister Oğuz indicated that teams from the district governor’s office, municipality, and Ministry of Agriculture have been working in an emergency state to assess the damages. It was mentioned that the damages of those involved in livestock farming would be evaluated under the general agricultural insurance scheme.
Particularly, it was learned that the roof of the village club in Altınova was completely blown off, and it was stated that 3-4 people present in the building were unharmed during the incident. Damages to households and residences will also be documented. Municipal teams have begun efforts to clear blocked roads.
Except for the significant damage in Kuzucuk, it was reported that a small-scale fire incident was brought under control by local teams. Oğuz also emphasized that power outages were experienced in some areas and that efforts to resolve these issues are ongoing.
Agriculture and Natural Resources Minister Hüseyin Çavuş extended his wishes for a speedy recovery to the local people after the storm, providing evaluations regarding the incidents that occurred. Çavuş stated that over 40 kilograms of rain fell and that the wind reached as far as Geçitkale.
Among the damaged areas are 11 farm buildings and a storage facility. Çavuş informed that teams would continue to assess damages in the area tomorrow. Additionally, heavy machinery will be sent to the area to repair damaged roads.
Minister Çavuş noted that the damages would be addressed promptly and that farmers would be supported, with coordinated collaborations continuing with the district governor’s office and municipality.
