In the beautiful village of Gialia, one of Cyprus’s natural wonders, a major event for jazz lovers is on the horizon. The 26th Paradise Jazz Festival is set to take place on August 21-22, bringing together musicians from diverse cultures. The event will be held at Val’s Place in the Baf region, under breathtaking sunsets and a starry sky.
What’s Happening at the Festival?
This year’s festival, organized by Cyprus Jazz Musicians & The Orange Train, is backed by the Contemporary Culture Division of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus. Socratis Efstathiou, one of the festival directors, announced that they will expand the event’s scope this year, offering four events each day. Four international artists and local talents will take the stage. Festival-goers can expect a wide range of musical experiences, from beloved female vocalists to extraordinary international soloists.
One of the events in the program will feature a powerful local band performing on the first day, led by guitarist Alexis Kasinos. For the afternoon entertainment, comic artist George Koulas and dancer Magda Argyridou will provide an unforgettable artistic experience for the audience.
Featured Projects and Performances
Pianist Akis Farmakidis will present a mini seminar on jazz legend Miles Davis during the festival’s first night. The seminar will start at 8:00 PM and last for 40 minutes. Attendance is quite limited, so those who wish to participate are advised to arrive early at the festival grounds.
On the second night of the festival, Christos Yerolatsitis’s “Unity” project stands out. The group will feature Toms Rudzinskis on saxophone, Stelios Xydias on drums, Cahit Kutrafalı on electric bass, and Yerolatsitis on keyboards. This project promises an impressive performance filled with unique melodic structures and rhythms.
