President Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Hristodulidis will meet in the buffer zone on August 26, 2026. This meeting aims to prepare for a new, results-oriented 5+1 summit. The meeting is scheduled to start at 16:00.
This interaction will be the first between the two leaders following the departure of United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres from the island, symbolizing the beginning of steps to ensure both parties enter a productive meeting in the upcoming process.
Presidential Undersecretary Mehmet Dânâ highlighted the importance of this meeting, stating that actions will be taken according to the roadmap presented by Guterres. The Turkish Cypriot side has expressed its readiness to make a serious and committed contribution to the process.
Dânâ emphasized that confidence-building measures, methodology, and substantive issues would be discussed during the meeting. He also stressed that these discussions would continue at a frequency agreed upon by the leaders, underscoring the determination in the process.
This will be the eighth encounter following Erhürman and Hristodulidis’s seventh meeting. The two leaders previously held a series of meetings that began on November 20, 2025, which continued until April 6, 2026.
