Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ünal Üstel, signed an important agreement during a meeting in Ankara with Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz. This protocol aims to develop fiber optic infrastructure, which is one of the cornerstones of the TRNC’s digitalization process. Üstel emphasized that this project, along with ongoing cooperation with Turkey, will provide significant benefits to the country.
Turkey’s Commitment to Support
Cevdet Yılmaz stated that Turkey will continue to support the projects carried out in the TRNC and expressed their determination to enhance cooperation in various sectors. He noted that the process, which started with a natural gas supply agreement, will encompass many sectors, including digitalization, energy, and health.
Yılmaz also reported that the necessary business model for providing fiber optic services to the TRNC will be established, and relevant regulations will be implemented. Steps will be taken to bring these projects to life with the official publication and enforcement of application protocols.
Investments in Digital Infrastructure
Üstel mentioned that the fiber project will enhance the economic strength of the TRNC and strengthen its connections with the world. He stated that beyond providing faster internet services, a robust e-Government infrastructure would be developed, which will greatly benefit both the public and businesses.
This project, which will define the digital future of the TRNC, will contribute to the digitalization of various fields and strengthen the investment environment. Üstel added that Turkey’s substantial support is pivotal in bringing many other projects to fruition.
