President of the Republic Nikos Hristodulidis stated that Cyprus serves as a critical bridge between the European Union (EU) and the Middle East. He made these remarks while announcing a video prepared for Cyprus’s presidency of the EU Council, shared on social media. Hristodulidis noted that during this period, Cyprus assumed the role of an “honest mediator” among the 27 member states.
Hristodulidis described the EU Council presidency as a time of “unprecedented geopolitical uncertainty.” During this period, Cyprus had to strive to influence member states’ critical decisions while addressing complex issues. He emphasized that Cyprus has taken on a more active role in response to regional turmoil, enhancing the country’s reliability on international platforms.
According to a report by Cyprus Mail, Hristodulidis discussed Cyprus’s ability to forge connections among regional countries, noting that European Council President Antonio Costa also characterized Cyprus as “a vital anchor for cooperation and European engagement in the region.” Hristodulidis expressed his belief that this role reflects that Cyprus is not only a mediator but also an active participant in policymaking.
Moreover, Hristodulidis argued that Cyprus’s capacity to contribute to European political discussions has increased, which has also developed the country’s political capital, allowing it to obtain a more visible position in decision-making processes.
