A fire on a balcony of a house in Gonyeli started when a forgotten lighter exploded due to extreme heat. The incident occurred around 3:30 PM on August 26, 2026, at a house on Gökkuşağı Street.
The lighter left on a seating set on the balcony overheated in the sun and exploded. Following the explosion, a cushion caught fire, leading to a rapidly spreading fire that extended beyond the balcony to parts of the house.
Noticing the flames, neighbors promptly alerted the fire department. Firefighters arrived quickly and managed to control and extinguish the fire. During the incident, various household items including white goods and furniture were damaged, as well as the aluminum blinds on the balcony which became unusable.
The impact of the fire caused windows in the house to crack, and the walls were covered in soot. There has been no official statement regarding any injuries following the incident. It is reported that a police investigation is ongoing regarding the matter.
